Welcome to Bettina, intern in artistic floral jewelry creation.
We are delighted to welcome Bettina to our Lyon-Brotteaux workshop for an internship at IKI. Her dual qualification in floristry and her Diploma in Arts and Crafts in "Contemporary Jewelry and Precious Objects" resonate perfectly with the floral world and the spirit of IKI.
Bettina wishes to work in the artistic direction of a high-end jewelry house .
She handles the brush wonderfully, she studied jewelry design and she is passionate about the floral world which has allowed her to express her artistic sense.
Discovery of boxes of stabilized natural flowers.
In order to truly immerse herself in the spirit of Maison IKI and its floral jewelry, we introduced her to the creation of preserved flower boxes.

We imagined a new collection for the opening of the corner store at Place des Jacobins in Lyon on May 2, and Bettina was able to create a small model based on hydrangeas, jasmine, diosmis (rice flowers) and craspedia.

“When I made my first floral jewelry box , which took me two hours of meticulous work, I felt a real similarity with the profession of artisan jeweler,” says Bettina. “The attention to detail and precision in preparing the elements based on flower petals, then the artistic sense to create a harmonious composition are essential. ”
Floral arrangements based on Japanese harmony

We completed his discovery of the IKI universe with an introduction to calligraphy (shodo) which highlights the art of movement which requires flexibility and letting go.
After a page of practice, Bettina was able to delicately paint the character "Hi," which means fire. "Handling the brush is very different from practicing gouache painting," Bettina explains.
From flower boxes to high-end jewelry
Bettina then painted our cases in her world of fine jewelry. The Hanabi case (fireworks in Japanese) inspired a multicolored ring .

The St-Tropez collection has been transformed into a sumptuous necklace in pastel shades.

And our blue Hokusai collection in a splendid wave-shaped tiara .

Bettina revealed the uniqueness of the flowers we carefully select. The softness of the hydrangea petal, the brilliance of the chrysanthemum, and the fluidity of the jasmine were all captured in each of her gouaches.
Imagine floral jewelry with the IKI spirit
Then came the creation phase of the future IKI floral jewelry collections. Bettina first made a sketch to harmoniously arrange the floral elements and work on the proportions and colors.

Finally, the final step consisted of transforming the paintings into jewelry. Each piece was made with preserved natural flower petals, meticulously arranged one by one. The IKI designers thus had the joy of continuing the goldsmith's work passed on by Bettina for new and exciting creations.
Did you know that Bettina's future career is officially called gouache artist? A rare profession, one she plans to pursue in the coming years. If you want to learn more about this profession, you can watch this France 3 report .
